EM-M40 is an eight-channel alarm logic module designed for alarm monitoring and indication in industrial automation systems. It provides the essential functions required for building compact alarm panels and centralized fault indication systems.
Each input channel can be individually configured to activate when a contact opens or closes. The inputs can also be controlled using voltage signals. Dedicated indication outputs follow the input states in real time and can be used to control external signal lamps, LEDs or relays.
When an alarm condition is detected, the indication output of the corresponding channel begins to flash. At the same time, the group alarm relay and alarm output indicate a common alarm condition.
The alarm is latched so that temporary faults are not overlooked. If the input returns to its normal state before the alarm is reset, the alarm indication remains active until it is cleared using the reset function.
When an active alarm is acknowledged, the common group alarm is cleared. The indication for the affected channel remains continuously illuminated until the input returns to its normal state. A new, unacknowledged alarm flashes, while an acknowledged alarm that is still active remains steadily illuminated.
Each of the eight alarm inputs can be configured for activation by either an opening or closing contact. The inputs can also be controlled directly with voltage signals using the specified low and high logic levels.
A common alarm delay can be selected for all eight channels. Available delay settings are 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 seconds. The delay helps prevent short signal disturbances from generating unnecessary alarms.
The channel indication outputs follow their corresponding input states in real time, allowing the EM-M40 to operate transparently between alarm contacts and external indicators.
The indication outputs can also be inverted so that the output state is reversed relative to the input. The outputs can be used to control signal lamps, LEDs or external relays.
The EM-M40 provides three common alarm outputs:
The group alarm relay is energized during normal operation and de-energized when an alarm occurs. This fail-safe operating principle also allows a loss of supply voltage to be detected as an alarm condition by the external system.
The test input can be used to verify the operation of the alarm indications and outputs. The group alarm relay can be excluded from the test when activation of the external alarm circuit is not desired during routine testing.
All NPN transistor outputs are protected against short circuits and overloads. Normal operation resumes automatically after the overload condition has been removed. The supply input is protected against voltage transients and reverse polarity.
