Overview

EM-262A is a triac phase-angle power controller designed for both resistive and inductive AC loads. Its advanced continuous triggering method provides reliable power control for applications such as lamps, resistive heaters, fan motors, transformers, and compatible dimmable LED lighting.

The output is controlled using a 0–5 V, 0–10 V, or 4–20 mA analog signal. An adjustable base level allows the minimum output level to be set between 0% and 40%.

AC Fan Speed Control

The EM-262A is well suited for speed control of compatible AC fan motors. The triac-based power stage provides smooth adjustment across the available control range.

At low motor speeds, phase-angle control may cause audible noise in the motor. This is a normal characteristic of triac and thyristor-based speed controllers and depends on the construction of the connected motor.

Dimmable LED Control

The continuous triggering method also enables the EM-262A to control compatible dimmable LED loads. This type of load can be difficult for conventional triac controllers because the current waveform differs from that of a purely resistive load.

LED lamps and drivers must be suitable for phase-cut dimming. Actual compatibility and the usable dimming range depend on the connected LED driver.

Base Level Adjustment

The adjustable base level sets the minimum output level between 0% and 40%. This is especially useful in lighting and fan applications where operation below a certain level is unnecessary or may cause unstable startup.

Automation System Control

The EM-262A can be integrated into industrial and building automation systems using standard 0–10 V or 4–20 mA control signals. A 0–5 V control input is also available.

The control stage is galvanically isolated from the mains-powered output stage with an isolation voltage of 1500 Vrms. This makes the controller easier and safer to integrate with external automation equipment.

Protection

The power stage is protected by an integrated T4A fuse.
