Overview

EM-75 is a compact low-voltage DC power controller designed for controlling resistive loads such as lamps and heating resistors. Inductive loads, including solenoids, valves, and DC motors, can also be controlled when a suitable flyback diode is installed across the load.

Power is adjusted using PWM (Pulse Width Modulation), providing efficient control with minimal power loss. The controller is connected in series with the load and can operate from either smooth or pulsating DC voltage.

PWM Power Control

The EM-75 adjusts the output power by changing the PWM duty cycle. Because the power stage operates as a switch, efficiency remains above 90% and power dissipation in the controller is low.

The output can be adjusted from 0% to 98%. An adjustable base level can be used to set the minimum output between 0% and 30%.

Stable Output with Changing Loads

Changes in the connected load do not affect the controller setting. For example, if some lamps in a group are switched off, the brightness of the remaining lamps remains unchanged, provided that the supply voltage remains stable.

Load Compatibility

The controller can be used directly with resistive loads such as:

  • Incandescent lamps
  • Heating resistors
  • Other resistive DC loads

Inductive loads can also be controlled when a suitable flyback diode is connected across the load. Typical inductive loads include:

  • Solenoids
  • Electromagnetic valves
  • DC motors

Installation and Bypass

The EM-75 is connected in series with the load. It can be installed on either the positive or negative side of the load, providing flexibility in different wiring arrangements.

The controller can also be bypassed, allowing connected lamps to be tested at full supply voltage.

Protection

The power stage includes protection against voltage surges, overloads, and short circuits. Reverse supply polarity does not damage the unit. The controller is also designed to produce very low radio-frequency interference.
