EM-356-SBL is a high-power brushless DC motor driver with Hall sensor feedback. It includes an efficient MOSFET power stage, true 4-quadrant operation and regenerative braking capability. The unit supports 120° commutation and meets modern EMC requirements, making it suitable for industrial and OEM applications.
The EM-356-SBL uses the motor’s Hall sensor pulses not only for commutation, but also for position feedback in a servo-like manner. The positioning resolution depends on the number of motor pole pairs: a 1 pole-pair motor generates 6 positions per revolution, while a 7 pole-pair motor gives 42 positions per revolution. With a gearbox, the mechanical resolution improves further.
The internal positioning amplifier allows detailed adjustment of dynamics, braking behaviour, start/stop ramps and accuracy. The driver also includes a 31-bit position counter, enabling extremely large movement ranges and precise absolute positioning.
EM-356-SBL provides all the necessary interfaces for modern automation:
The device can operate as a locally controlled actuator or as a fully remote, bus-controlled positioning system in a Modbus network. Input and output behaviours are parameter-configurable, offering excellent flexibility.
Built-in protection features include overvoltage, undervoltage and overtemperature shutdowns. Faults are indicated with an onboard LED and can be monitored over Modbus. Current limiting and I-trip functions safeguard the motor and electronics against overloads. Faults can be reset via the reset input, a reset timer or by driving the analog reference to zero.
The 4-quadrant power stage supports regenerative braking. When braking energy feeds back to the supply, the rising voltage can be dissipated via a braking resistor output, or in battery systems, the energy can be returned to the battery.
Parameters can be configured with the EM-236 interface unit or Emen-Tool Lite software using the EM-328 adapter. All parameters are stored in non-volatile memory. Motor current, speed and diagnostics can also be monitored through the same interface or via Modbus.
The unit is DIN-rail mountable, with additional enclosure options for OEM use.
