Overview

EM-154 is a compact low-voltage DC power controller for resistive and inductive loads. Typical applications include incandescent lamps, heating resistors, solenoids, and other DC-powered loads.

Output power is adjusted using PWM (Pulse Width Modulation), providing efficient control with low thermal losses. The controller is connected in series with the load and can be installed on either the positive or negative side.

PWM Power Control

The EM-154 adjusts the output power by changing the PWM duty cycle. Because the power stage operates as a switch, efficiency remains above 90% and thermal losses in the controller are low.

The output can be adjusted from 0% to 98%. A suitable external potentiometer can be used for manual power adjustment.

Base Level Adjustment

The integrated base level adjustment sets the minimum output level between 0% and 30%. This allows the output to start from a predefined level instead of zero.

The function is particularly useful in applications where the connected load requires a minimum amount of power for reliable startup or operation.

Load Compatibility

The controller is suitable for resistive loads such as:

  • Incandescent lamps
  • Heating resistors
  • Other resistive DC loads

It can also control inductive DC loads, including:

  • Solenoids
  • Electromagnetic actuators
  • Other inductive loads within the rated capacity

Installation and Lamp Test

The EM-154 is connected in series with the load. It can be installed on either the positive or negative side, providing flexibility for different wiring arrangements.

If required, a lamp test switch can be connected across the controller. This bypasses the power control stage and allows the connected lamps to be tested directly.

Higher-Power Applications

Two or more EM-154 units can be connected in parallel when a higher-power solution is required. The installation must follow the product wiring instructions and remain within the specified ratings.

Protection

The output stage includes protection against load short circuits and supply-line voltage spikes.
