EM-M43 is an optically isolated signal converter designed for connecting a 4–20 mA current-loop signal to a voltage input on a PLC, computer interface or other control system.
The input signal is converted into a selectable 0–5 V or 0–10 V output. The input side obtains its operating energy from the current loop, while the isolated output side operates from a 15–32 VDC supply.
The EM-M43 converts a standard 4–20 mA process signal into an isolated voltage signal. The output range can be selected to match the connected control-system input:
The voltage output is intended for loads with an input resistance greater than 1 kΩ.
Optical signal transmission provides galvanic isolation between the current-loop input and voltage output circuits. The specified isolation voltage is 1500 V.
The isolation helps prevent ground-loop currents and unwanted electrical coupling between field instrumentation and PLC or computer input circuits.
The input stage obtains its operating energy directly from the 4–20 mA current loop. The input has a specified impedance of 120 Ω and includes overcurrent protection.
The isolated output circuit requires a 15–32 VDC operating supply. The supply input is protected against incorrect polarity.
The converter transfers signals from DC up to 100 Hz. The specified 10–90% response time is 10 ms, making the module suitable for standard industrial process signals and moderately changing measurement values.
The standard EM-M43 provides one isolated conversion channel in a DIN-rail-mountable housing.
A dual-channel version is available under the type code EM-M43-2. The two-channel model requires approximately 10 mm of installation width per channel.
