EM-366A Brushless DC-Motor Driver with Modbus RS-485

Key Features

  • High-efficiency MOSFET power stage with EMC compliance
  • True 4-quadrant operation with regenerative braking capability
  • Supports both open-loop and closed-loop speed control
  • Analog and digital inputs for flexible control options
  • Modbus RS-485 communication for system integration

EM-366A is a compact and efficient brushless DC motor driver designed for demanding automation and motion-control applications. The driver features hall sensor feedback, true 4-quadrant operation, and Modbus RS-485 communication for flexible system integration.

High Efficiency and Regenerative Braking

The EM-366A uses a MOSFET power stage with excellent efficiency and full compliance with modern EMC requirements. The unit supports 120° commutation and provides regenerative braking capability. During braking, the supply voltage rises and can be controlled with an external braking resistor. In battery-powered systems, the regenerated energy can be directed back to the battery, eliminating the need for a resistor.

Control Features

  • Digital inputs: direction, start/stop, disable, and speed-2 selection
  • Analog inputs for speed and current control
  • PNP output for fault indication
  • Customizable I/O functions via parameters
  • Comprehensive protection: overvoltage, undervoltage, and overtemperature

Flexible Speed Control Modes

  • Open loop: motor voltage follows the control voltage, similar to a standard DC motor
  • Closed loop: hall sensor feedback ensures precise speed regulation

Start and stop ramps operate in both modes. Adjustable parameters allow fine-tuning of speed range, closed-loop RPM limits, and acceleration/deceleration ramps. Filtered analog inputs also enable the use of a PWM control signal for speed and current.

Parameter Setting and Monitoring

All parameters can be digitally configured using the EM-236 interface unit or the Emen-Tool Lite PC software together with the EM-328 adapter cable. Settings are stored in non-volatile memory, and real-time monitoring of motor current and RPM is supported.

Installation and Options

The driver can be mounted on a DIN-rail base, and optional enclosure versions are available for customized installations.
