Electromen Modbus Starter Kit - USB to RS-485
Easy connection and communication testing for Electromen Modbus motor controllers
Connect the USB to RS-485 converter to the computer first. Allow Windows to detect the converter and complete the USB serial port driver installation before connecting the RS-485 wiring. The first installation may take several minutes.
A practical starter kit for connecting a Windows PC to an Electromen motor controller using Modbus RTU. Controllers with an RS-485 interface can be connected directly to the USB to RS-485 converter. For controllers with a 5 V TTL-level serial RX/TX interface, the included EM-P189 adapter converts the connection to RS-485. Setup instructions and the Electromen Simple Modbus Test Tool for Windows are available as downloads.

Compatibility
Check the communication interface before ordering. For an Electromen product with a native RS-485 interface, connect the USB to RS-485 converter directly to the controller. If the product uses a 5 V TTL-level serial RX/TX Modbus interface, connect the included EM-P189 between the controller and the USB to RS-485 converter. Do not connect an RS-485 signal directly to TTL-level RX/TX pins. Always check the controller documentation before connecting.
The USB to RS-485 converter is not galvanically isolated. Use it only where the computer and controller can be connected safely without galvanic isolation. If there may be a significant ground potential difference or isolation is required by the installation, use a suitable isolated interface instead.
Safety notice
Modbus commands may change controller parameters or cause motor movement. Verify the register address and permitted value range before writing, and make sure unexpected motor operation cannot cause injury or damage.
