EM-P189 is an interface card that converts the serial RX and TX signals of a compatible Electromen device into an RS-485 bus connection. It is intended for Electromen products that support Modbus communication through their internal serial interface.
The converter receives its operating power from the connected Electromen product through the supplied link cable. A removable 120 Ω termination resistor and RS-485 line-bias resistors are included on the card.
The EM-P189 converts the local serial RX and TX signals of the host device into differential RS-485 signalling. This allows a compatible Electromen product to be connected to an RS-485 Modbus network.
The communication protocol, device address, baud rate, parity and other Modbus settings are determined by the connected Electromen product and its firmware.
The converter is supplied with a 25 cm Micro-MaTch-to-Micro-MaTch link cable. The cable carries the serial signals and provides the 4.5–6 V operating supply from the host device.
The EM-P189 should only be connected to an Electromen product specifically designed to support this interface. Connector compatibility alone does not confirm electrical or firmware compatibility.
A 120 Ω termination resistor is supplied in a socket and can be installed when bus termination is required. Termination is normally used only at the two physical ends of an RS-485 bus.
The termination resistor should normally be removed from devices located between the two ends of the bus.
The card includes 10 kΩ line-bias resistors for defining the bus state when no transmitter is actively driving the RS-485 lines. The complete network should be checked to prevent unnecessary duplication of bias components in several devices.
