EM-348-PLI DC-Motor Controller with Modbus RS485

Overview

EM-348-PLI is a full-bridge DC motor starter designed for applications requiring advanced control features and Modbus communication. The driver provides smooth acceleration and deceleration ramps, enabling soft starts and stops, while the adjustable current limit protects the motor from overcurrent and can also serve as an end-stop limiter.

Control and Functionality

The FW and BW inputs control the forward and backward motion, while STOP is used to shut down the motor. The FAULT output indicates different failure conditions — the pin is normally low but goes high during overheat or current trip. The DISABLE input stops the driver as long as it is externally pulled high. Several units can be linked together through their FAULT and DISABLE pins to achieve a synchronous stop.

Special Functions

The EM-348-PLI offers selectable control modes:

  • Continuous mode: Motor runs as long as the command is active.
  • Impulse mode: A short command starts the motor; a new pulse changes its status.

Additional configurable features include start-kick for initial torque boost and auto-reverse for directional cycling. The BRAKE output can be used to control an external magnetic brake or braking resistor during overvoltage conditions.

Parameter Setting and Bus Control

Parameters can be configured using the EM-236 interface unit. The device also supports control via RS-485 Modbus RTU, enabling remote configuration of speed, direction, acceleration/deceleration ramps, and current limit. Monitoring and parameter adjustment are also available through the bus.
