EM-M20 converts the position of a potentiometer into a standard 4–20 mA current-loop signal. The converter is powered directly from the output current loop and does not require a separate auxiliary supply.
Independent zero and gain adjustments allow the potentiometer’s mechanical travel to be matched to the required current-output span. Four selectable filtering alternatives allow the signal response to be adapted to both slowly and rapidly changing applications.
The EM-M20 measures the position of an external potentiometer and converts the wiper position into a proportional current-loop signal.
Potentiometers from 1 to 10 kΩ are specified for use with the converter. The module provides the required measuring circuit for the connected potentiometer.
The nominal output signal is 4–20 mA. The converter supports an extended output-current capability up to 25 mA.
The output loop operates from a 12–32 VDC supply. Because the module obtains its operating energy from the current loop, no separate power-supply connection is required.
Separate zero and gain adjustments allow the beginning and end of the potentiometer travel to be matched to the required output-current range.
The adjustments are designed to operate independently, reducing the need to repeatedly readjust the zero and full-scale settings during calibration.
The signal bandwidth can be selected from four alternatives:
Lower bandwidth settings provide stronger filtering for slowly changing position signals. Higher bandwidth settings provide a faster response for dynamic applications.
The EM-M20 includes protection against interfering voltage transients, overvoltage and incorrect connections.
