EM-A24C-JS1 is a compact full-bridge driver for joystick-controlled brushed DC motors. It is based on the proven EM-241 driver platform and is designed for embedded and OEM motor control applications.
The driver includes an efficient H-bridge power stage with low electromagnetic emissions. Joystick and thumb-throttle control provide proportional forward and reverse operation from a single analog input.
Two selectable PWM frequencies are available. The 2 kHz setting provides the highest output-current capacity, while the 16 kHz setting provides quieter motor operation above the normal audible range.
The EM-A24C-JS1 firmware is optimized for analog joystick and thumb-throttle applications. The analog input provides proportional control of motor speed and direction.
Moving the control away from its neutral position selects the direction and increases motor output according to the input voltage.
The calibration function can use either two or three reference points, depending on the selected control mode and input device.
Calibration allows the driver to learn the usable input range and establish the required endpoints and neutral position. This compensates for differences between individual joysticks and thumb-throttle sensors.
The efficient H-bridge power stage provides proportional forward and reverse motor control. It can supply up to 12 A continuously and 30 A momentarily, depending on the selected PWM frequency, duty cycle and operating conditions.
The adjustable current limit protects the motor, driver and mechanical system against excessive current and torque. During start-up, the available current limit can temporarily reach 30 A.
Start and stop ramps can be adjusted between immediate response and five seconds. The ramps provide smooth acceleration, deceleration and direction changes.
Ramp control reduces mechanical shock and helps prevent sudden current peaks when the joystick command changes rapidly.
Load compensation helps reduce motor-speed variation caused by changes in mechanical load. The function can improve low-speed control and provide more consistent actuator response.
The 2 kHz PWM setting provides the highest continuous and peak-current capacity.
The 16 kHz setting moves the switching frequency above the normal audible range and provides quieter motor operation with reduced continuous and peak-current capacity.
The adjustable overvoltage limit can be set between 15 V and 40 V. When the selected limit is reached, the motor is switched to freewheel operation to reduce energy transfer back to the supply.
If the voltage reaches 40 V, dynamic braking is activated by short-circuiting the motor terminals. This helps control voltage generated by the motor during deceleration or when driven by an external load.
The NPN open-collector fault output can be used to indicate controller fault conditions to an external control system.
An active-low fault input is also available. Pulling the input below 1 V stops motor operation according to the configured fault behaviour.
Controller parameters can be configured digitally using the EM-236 Interface Unit. Adjustable parameters include the current limit, start and stop ramps, joystick calibration and other application-specific functions.
Digital parameter setting provides repeatable adjustments and allows settings to be copied between several controller units.
The EM-328 USB interface allows the controller to be connected to a PC running EmenTool Lite. The software can be used for parameter setting, monitoring and supported firmware-update functions.
The compact driver can be installed directly using screw mounting. An optional DIN-rail mounting base is available for control-cabinet installations.
The power stage is designed for low electromagnetic emissions. This can reduce the need for additional suppression components, although EMC compliance must always be verified for the complete final installation.
The EM-A24C-JS1 is suitable for mobile machinery, small lifting and handling equipment, adjustable work platforms, valve and damper actuators, vehicle equipment and OEM systems requiring proportional joystick control.
