EM-LP40 is a linear power supply designed for Electromen motor controllers and other compatible EM products. Its conventional transformer provides good short-duration current capability, making the supply suitable for DC motor applications with elevated starting-current requirements.
The output is rectified and filtered but not voltage regulated. Consequently, the output voltage depends on the connected load and decreases as the output current increases. The supply provides a nominal continuous output current of up to 1.5 A, while higher currents are available only for short-duration motor starting and load peaks.
The EM-LP40 has a no-load output voltage of approximately 31 VDC. At the maximum nominal continuous current of 1.5 A, the specified output voltage is approximately 24 VDC.
During short-duration current peaks, the supply can deliver higher current, but the output voltage decreases according to the load. The actual motor performance therefore depends on the motor current, motor-controller losses and wiring resistance.
DC motors commonly require significantly more current during starting than during continuous operation. The transformer-based construction can provide short current peaks for motor acceleration without the fast electronic current limiting commonly associated with some switching power supplies.
The power supply does not increase the continuous-current rating of the installed motor controller. The permissible continuous load must remain within the ratings of both the EM-LP40 and the connected controller.
The EM-LP40 is listed for use with the following Electromen products:
One compatible controller can be mounted inside the enclosure using the four supplied nylon mounting pillars. Some listed controllers cannot deliver their full rated output power when supplied by the EM-LP40 because the available power is limited by the power supply.
The transformer incorporates self-resetting thermal protection. If the transformer overheats, the protection interrupts operation and restores it automatically after the transformer has cooled.
The ABS enclosure is specified to IP65 when correctly assembled with suitable cable glands. However, it is not UV stabilised and is therefore not recommended for exposed outdoor installation.
