Overview

EM-217B is a compact frequency inverter designed for speed control of small single-phase induction motors. It generates two output voltages with a 90° phase difference, eliminating the need for the auxiliary capacitor commonly used with single-phase motors.

The output frequency is adjustable from 15 to 80 Hz. Motor speed can be controlled using a voltage signal, a 4–20 mA current signal, or an external potentiometer.

Motor Output and EMC

The EM-217B produces two motor output voltages with a 90° phase difference. This allows a compatible single-phase induction motor to operate without a separate auxiliary capacitor.

The output stage operates according to the PAM (Pulse Amplitude Modulation) principle. This provides low electromagnetic emissions and makes the controller suitable for applications requiring good EMC performance.

Speed Control

Motor speed can be controlled using a 0–5 V or 0–10 V voltage signal, a 4–20 mA current signal, or an external potentiometer. A 5 V auxiliary output is available for potentiometer control.

Direction Control

The direction of rotation can be changed using a digital command input. A 0.2-second direction-change delay provides a controlled transition between directions.

Start and Stop Ramps

The integrated start and stop ramps provide smooth motor acceleration and deceleration. The stop ramp can be disabled when a faster, uncontrolled stop is required.

Isolation and Protection

All control inputs are galvanically isolated from the mains supply with an isolation voltage of 1500 Vrms. This simplifies integration into automation systems and protects the external low-voltage control circuitry.

The EM-217B also includes a self-resetting mains fuse, providing improved immunity against mains voltage spikes and temporary overload conditions.
