Overview

EM-206-48V is a controller for brushless DC motors equipped with Hall sensor feedback. It supports motors with either 60° or 120° Hall commutation and uses a high-efficiency MOSFET power stage.

Standard control functions include speed adjustment, stop, direction reversal, and braking. The controller can be mounted directly using screws or installed with a suitable DIN-rail mounting base.

Speed Control Modes

The EM-206-48V provides two selectable speed control modes:

  • Direct control (open loop): the motor voltage is proportional to the control voltage, providing operation similar to a conventional DC motor controller.
  • Frequency-locked control (closed loop): Hall sensor feedback is used for both motor commutation and speed control. This provides accurate motor speed in relation to the control signal.

Closed-Loop Adjustment

In frequency-locked mode, the closed-loop response can be adjusted to achieve stable speed control with different motors, loads, and mechanical systems.

The analog speed-control signal can be scaled using adjustment trimmers. The standard control range is 0–10 V and can be adjusted for a 0–5 V control signal.

Motor Current Limit

The motor current limit is adjustable from 0 to 8 A. It restricts the motor torque when the measured motor current exceeds the selected limit.

The current limit can be set either with an on-board trimmer or using an external 0–5 V signal. An external signal of 0–5 V corresponds to a current-limit range of 0–8 A.

Fault Output

An NPN open-collector fault output indicates when the current limit is active. The output is rated for a maximum of 30 V and 10 mA.

Protection and External Fuse

The EM-206-48V includes protection against supply voltage surges and overheating caused by excessive load. Thermal protection monitors the heat-sink temperature and activates at 120°C.

The unit requires a correctly rated external supply fuse.

Optional ±10 V Control

The optional EM-A1 expansion card enables the EM-206-48V to be controlled using a ±10 V analog control signal.

Installation

The compact controller can be installed directly using mounting screws or attached to a DIN rail with a suitable rail-mounting base.
