EM-A24 is a compact PCB-mountable driver module for brushed DC motors. It is based on the EM-241 motor driver and includes an efficient H-bridge power stage.
The module is designed for vertical installation on a motherboard, allowing it to provide high motor current while requiring very little PCB area. Its low electromagnetic emissions simplify integration into equipment intended for industrial and household environments.
The EM-A24 is intended for direct installation on a motherboard. Its vertical mounting orientation minimizes the required PCB area and makes the module suitable for compact control-system designs.
The integrated power stage reduces the need to design and qualify a separate high-current motor output stage on the motherboard.
The module includes an efficient H-bridge power stage for bidirectional DC motor control. It can provide up to 12 A of continuous motor current and a peak current of up to 30 A, depending on the selected PWM frequency and operating conditions.
The adjustable current limit can be used to protect the motor, driver and mechanical system. During start-up, the available current limit can temporarily reach 30 A.
The PWM frequency can be selected between 2 kHz and 16 kHz. The 2 kHz setting provides the highest available output-current capacity.
The 16 kHz setting moves the switching frequency above the normal audible range, providing quieter motor operation with a reduced continuous and peak-current capacity.
The adjustable overvoltage limit can be set between 15 V and 40 V. When this limit is reached, the motor is switched to freewheel operation to help prevent the supply voltage from rising further.
If the voltage reaches 40 V, the driver activates dynamic braking by short-circuiting the motor terminals. This helps control voltage generated by the motor during deceleration or an externally driven overhauling load.
The EM-A24 supports adjustable start and stop ramps between 0 and 5 seconds. Digital control inputs accept industrial voltage levels, and the typical control-input response time is 5 ms.
A fault output is available as an NPN open-collector signal. The module also provides an active-low fault input.
The power stage is designed for low electromagnetic emissions. This can help the completed system meet applicable EMC requirements without additional external suppression components, although EMC compliance must always be verified for the complete installation.
The module is CE tested for industrial EMC environments and operates across a wide temperature range of −40…+60 °C.
