EM-291A is a compact brushless DC motor driver for motors equipped with Hall sensor feedback. Its high-efficiency MOSFET power stage provides reliable motor control while meeting EMC requirements for industrial and household environments.
The driver includes digital inputs for direction, start/stop, and disable control, together with an analog input for speed control. Motor speed can be controlled in either direct open-loop mode or closed-loop mode using Hall sensor feedback.
The EM-291A provides two selectable speed control modes:
The speed adjustment range and closed-loop RPM range can be configured using parameters.
Adjustable start and stop ramps operate in both speed control modes. The ramp settings allow motor acceleration and deceleration to be adapted to the application.
Digital inputs are provided for direction, start/stop, and disable control. The standard digital inputs use positive logic:
The disable input has a separate operating logic. An input level of 0–1 V or an open input disables the driver, while 4–30 V enables normal operation.
The analog speed input supports either a 0–5 V or 0–10 V control signal. The input includes a low-pass filter, allowing a PWM output from a PLC to be used as the speed command.
When PWM control is used, the recommended control signal frequency is above 300 Hz.
The driver includes one NPN output for fault and overcurrent indication. The function of the indication output can be selected using parameters. Fault conditions are also indicated by an on-board LED.
Parameters can be configured digitally using the EM-236 Interface Unit. PC-based configuration is available using EmenTool Lite together with the EM-268 adapter.
An iPhone configuration option is also available using the Ementool App and the EM-326 adapter. Parameter settings are stored in the driver’s non-volatile memory.
The parameter interfaces can also be used to monitor motor current.
The driver is equipped with screw connectors suitable for cable sizes up to 2.5 mm².
The driver can be installed on a DIN rail using the EM-KP72-65 mounting base. The EM-T17 metal enclosure is available as an additional installation option.
