EM-165A is a compact and economical DC motor positioning controller with an integrated servo amplifier and power stage. It is designed for positioning applications using a DC motor equipped with a feedback potentiometer.
The controller is particularly suitable for slow and medium-speed positioning systems with an end-to-end travel time of approximately 2–30 seconds. The integrated position control automatically drives the motor towards the selected target position and reduces motor speed as the target is approached.
The desired position can be set using an external potentiometer or a 0–5 V analog control signal.
The controller continuously compares the position setpoint with the actual position measured by the feedback potentiometer. Motor operation is controlled according to the difference between these two signals.
The EM-165A includes an adjustable motor current limit that can be set between 2 A and 12 A.
The current limit can be used to restrict motor torque, helping to protect the mechanical system against excessive loading during positioning.
If the motor current remains at the selected current limit for more than 2 seconds, the current trip function shuts down the driver and activates the error output.
The controller can be reactivated from a current trip condition by applying a reverse control command.
The error output is an NPN open-collector output rated for a maximum of 30 V and 50 mA.
The power stage includes self-recovering overload and overtemperature protection. Short-circuit protection operates at approximately 30 A.
Although the controller includes internal protection functions, the use of an external supply fuse is recommended.
The compact dimensions make the EM-165A suitable for installations where available space is limited.
The controller can be mounted directly using screws or installed on a standard DIN rail with an optional rail mounting base.
