Overview

EM-213 is a high-efficiency 1-quadrant PWM power controller for resistive and inductive DC loads. It provides up to 10 A of continuous output current and 15 A peak current for short periods.

The selectable PWM frequency allows the controller to be optimized for different load types. The 19 kHz mode is intended for inductive loads such as DC motors, while the 300 Hz mode is suitable for resistive loads such as lamps and heaters.

1-Quadrant Power Control

The EM-213 controls power in one direction using the PWM principle. It is suitable for applications where the load requires adjustable power without electronic direction reversal or regenerative braking.

Because the power stage operates as a switch, power losses remain low and efficiency is high.

Selectable PWM Frequency

Two PWM frequencies are available for different load characteristics:

  • 19 kHz: intended for inductive loads such as DC motors
  • 300 Hz: intended for resistive loads such as lamps and heating resistors

The high-frequency mode operates above the normal audible frequency range, helping to reduce audible PWM noise in motor applications.

Supply Voltage Compensation

The output is compensated for changes in the supply voltage. This helps maintain a stable output level even when the input voltage varies and allows the controller to operate successfully with an unregulated power supply.

Analog Control

Output power is controlled using an analog voltage signal. The standard control range is 0–5 V, and the input range can be adjusted for higher control voltages.

Adjustable Soft Start

The integrated soft-start function increases the output gradually when control is activated. The ramp time can be adjusted from 0 to 4 seconds, reducing mechanical stress and motor starting current.

Overtemperature Protection

The output stage is protected against overload-related overheating. The protection activates at approximately 110°C and automatically restores operation after the controller has cooled sufficiently.
