EM-316A is a brushless DC motor driver for motors equipped with Hall sensor feedback. It supports both 60° and 120° Hall commutation and uses a high-efficiency MOSFET power stage.
The driver includes digital inputs for direction, brake, start/stop, and disable control. Separate analog inputs are provided for motor speed and current-limit control. A digitally presettable second speed can be activated using a digital input.
The EM-316A provides two selectable speed control modes:
The speed adjustment range and closed-loop RPM range can be configured using parameters.
Adjustable start and stop ramps operate in both speed control modes. The ramp settings allow motor acceleration and deceleration to be adapted to the application.
A second speed can be preset digitally and activated using a command input. This allows the application to switch between the normal analog speed command and a predefined fixed speed.
Analog inputs are provided for both speed and current-limit control. The input range can be selected from 0–5 V up to 0–10 V.
The analog inputs include a 100 Hz filter, allowing PWM signals to be used for speed and current-limit control.
The motor current limit is adjustable from 0.1 to 25 A in 0.1 A steps. An external 0–5 V analog signal can also be used to control the current limit, with 0–5 V corresponding to 0–25 A.
Two NPN outputs are provided for fault and overcurrent indication. Some input and output functions can be modified using parameters.
Fault conditions are also indicated by an on-board fault LED.
The driver includes protection against overvoltage, undervoltage, and overtemperature. Overvoltage shutdown occurs at 40 V, and overtemperature shutdown occurs at 90°C.
Overtemperature and current-limit conditions can be reset using the reset input, an adjustable reset timer, or by setting the analog speed command to zero.
The EM-316A includes an expansion-card slot for the optional EM-A1 card. The card enables symmetrical −5…0…+5 V control:
The EM-A1 card also generates a −5 V auxiliary voltage for local potentiometer control.
Parameters can be configured digitally using the EM-236 Interface Unit. PC-based configuration is available using EmenTool Lite together with the EM-268 adapter cable.
Parameter settings are stored in the driver’s non-volatile memory. The interface can also be used to monitor motor current and RPM.
The driver can be installed on a DIN-rail mounting base. Enclosure options are also available for different installation requirements.
