Overview

EM-243C-JS1 is a full-bridge DC-motor starter designed for joystick-controlled applications. It provides smooth and precise control of DC motors, making it ideal for motion systems requiring ramped starts and stops, dual-speed operation, and robust protection features.

Adjustable acceleration and deceleration ramps ensure smooth motor operation, while the current limit function protects against overcurrent and can act as an electronic end-stop. The device supports two independently adjustable speed ranges for forward and reverse directions.

Joystick Control and Fault Handling

The control input is optimized for joystick use. Automatic joystick calibration is activated via a calibration function, detecting forward, reverse, and neutral positions. The FAULT terminal operates simultaneously as an input and output — normally high, and pulled low in case of overheat or current trip. Pulling the FAULT line low externally stops the motor and prevents restart, allowing multiple units to be linked together for synchronous stop operation.

Special Functions

  • Start-kick to increase starting torque in heavy load or jam risk situations
  • Selectable input logic — each limit input can be configured for NPN or PNP operation
  • Integrated brake output for magnetic brake or overvoltage braking resistor

Parameter Setting and Monitoring

Parameter adjustment such as ramp time, speed range, and current limit can be made using various EM-interface units. Operation status and functional values can be monitored with these same devices.
