EM-339A-48V-SPF is a synchronized positioning controller for two brushed DC motors or actuators operating from nominal 24–48 VDC supplies. It uses quadrature pulse feedback from both actuators to monitor their speed, direction and relative position.
The SPF firmware uses an analog position command, allowing the driver to operate as a two-axis servo controller. Both actuators are driven toward the requested position while the integrated synchronization control keeps them aligned throughout the movement.
The requested position can be supplied as a 0–5 V, 0–10 V or 4–20 mA analog signal. The usable setpoint range can be adjusted through parameters to match the required mechanical movement range.
Voltage signals use a 10 kΩ input impedance. In 4–20 mA mode, the input uses a 250 Ω measuring resistance.
Each actuator must provide two pulse signals with a 0°/90° phase difference. The signals can be generated by Hall sensors, reed switches or other compatible switching sensors.
The quadrature signals allow the driver to determine both movement and direction. Pulse inputs can be configured for either positive-going or negative-going signals.
The controller compares the pulse counts from both actuators and adjusts their speeds during movement. If the permitted synchronization error is exceeded and the difference cannot be corrected, both motors are stopped to help prevent twisting, jamming and mechanical damage.
Adjustable acceleration and deceleration ramps provide smooth starts, stops and direction changes. The ramp time can be adjusted between 0 and 2 seconds.
The adjustable current limit protects the motors, actuators and mechanical system against excessive current, torque and force. The current limit can be set between 1 A and 25 A.
The power stage includes temperature protection with a 120 °C limit.
The driver supports selectable 2 kHz and 16 kHz PWM frequencies. The 2 kHz setting provides the highest motor-current capacity, while 16 kHz enables quieter operation with reduced current capability.
The controller supports a safety-switch input with line monitoring. This allows the electrical condition of the safety circuit to be monitored in addition to the switch state.
A configurable safety-reverse function can automatically reverse the actuators for a parameter-defined time after a safety event or obstruction is detected.
The active pull-down fault output can provide external fault or status indication. A separate high-current pull-down brake output is available for controlling a compatible external braking device or load.
The integrated two-wire RS-485 interface supports the Modbus RTU protocol. It enables remote control of the driver as well as parameter setting and monitoring of operating values.
Supported communication speeds are 9600 and 19200 bit/s. Detailed bus operation is described in a separate Modbus instruction guide.
Parameters can be configured using the EM-236 Interface Unit. PC-based configuration is available with EmenTool Lite and the EM-268 interface.
Parameter adjustment is also available using the EmenTool mobile application with a compatible smartphone interface.
