EM-239 is a synchronized driver for two brushed DC motor actuators equipped with pulse-feedback sensors. The controller continuously compares the movement of both actuators and adjusts their motor speeds to maintain synchronized operation.
If speed correction cannot compensate for the position difference between the actuators, the controller stops both motors. This helps prevent excessive mechanical stress, twisting and damage in structures driven by two parallel actuators.
The power stages use pulse-width modulation for efficient motor control with low internal power loss. Adjustable current limiting and power-stage temperature protection safeguard the motors, controller and mechanical system.
Each actuator is driven by its own motor output and provides an independent pulse-feedback signal. The EM-239 compares the feedback from both actuators and adjusts their speeds during movement.
This active correction helps keep the actuators at the same relative position even when their motor characteristics or mechanical loads differ.
If the difference between the actuator positions exceeds the permitted correction range, the controller stops both motors.
The shutdown prevents one actuator from continuing to move while the other is blocked, overloaded or no longer producing a valid feedback signal.
Pulse feedback can be provided by Hall sensors, reed switches or other compatible pulse-generating sensors.
The controller can be configured for positive or negative pulses. It also supports either one or two pulse channels for each motor, allowing the feedback arrangement to be matched to the connected actuators.
Normal operation is controlled using FORWARD, BACKWARD and STOP commands. The FORWARD and BACKWARD inputs can operate in either continuous or impulse mode.
In continuous mode, the actuators move for as long as the corresponding direction command remains active. In impulse mode, short input pulses start and stop the movement.
Adjustable ramp times provide smooth actuator starts, stops and direction changes. The ramp time can be set between immediate response and two seconds.
Smooth ramps reduce mechanical shock and help prevent sudden motor-current peaks.
Separate trim inputs allow each actuator to be moved individually during installation, alignment, servicing or recovery from an abnormal condition.
The trim functions can override several restrictions used during normal synchronized operation. They should therefore be used only when the operator can observe the complete mechanism and ensure that individual movement is safe.
The HOME input drives both actuators toward their initial position at a reduced speed. When the home sequence is completed, the internal position counters are reset to zero.
Homing provides a common mechanical reference and restores the controller's position information after installation, servicing or an unexpected operating condition.
The configurable safety-reverse function detects an overload caused by an obstacle or jammed mechanism. When the trigger conditions are met, the controller automatically reverses the actuators.
This can help release trapped objects and reduce force on the mechanism. The function must be configured according to the application's mechanical limits and safety requirements.
The adjustable current limit protects the motors, power stages and mechanical system against excessive current and force.
The current limit can be set between 1 A and 25 A. The appropriate setting depends on the actuator, required force, duty cycle and cooling conditions.
Parameters can be configured using the EM-236 Interface Unit. Default settings are suitable for many applications, while application-specific parameters allow synchronization, protection and control behaviour to be adapted.
PC-based parameter setting is available using EmenTool Lite and a compatible Electromen interface adapter.
Parameter setting from a smartphone is available using the EmenTool App with a compatible interface unit.
The EM-239 is suitable for adjustable beds, worktables, lifting platforms, hatches, covers, solar-panel mechanisms and other structures driven by two synchronized DC actuators.
