EM-362D is a high-current, full-bridge driver for permanent-magnet brushed DC motors. It is designed for nominal 12–36 VDC systems requiring bidirectional motor control, adjustable motion profiles and advanced current protection.
Adjustable acceleration and deceleration ramps provide smooth starts, stops and direction changes. Separate motoring and regenerative-braking current limiting protects the motor, power stage and mechanical system during both acceleration and deceleration.
The full-bridge power stage provides bidirectional control with a maximum continuous motor current of 160 A at an ambient temperature of 50 °C. Higher currents are available for acceleration and other short-duration operating conditions.
The driver can supply up to 200 A for 30 seconds and a maximum starting current of 300 A for five seconds.
The EM-362D is designed for nominal 12–36 VDC applications. Its low shutdown threshold allows motor operation to continue during short supply-voltage drops.
A dedicated shutdown input reduces idle current from approximately 20 mA to approximately 1 mA when connected to signal ground.
Two adjustable speed settings are available. The SPEED-2 input activates the second preset speed or can be configured as a 0–4.5 V analog speed-control input.
The analog current-limit input provides a 0–5 V control range corresponding to 0–250 A. During the start ramp, the selected current limit is temporarily increased by 20% to provide additional starting torque.
Separate braking-current limitation controls the current generated during regenerative braking. A high-current brake output is available for an external braking load.
The braking-load output supports up to 50 A continuously and 100 A peak.
The FW and BW inputs control forward and reverse operation. The STOP input stops the motor, while separate direction-specific limit inputs can be used for forward and reverse end limits.
In continuous mode, the motor runs for as long as the selected direction command remains active. In impulse mode, a short command starts the motor and another command changes or stops the operating state.
The inputs are divided into command and limit groups. Each group can be configured independently for NPN or PNP operation.
The FAULT terminal functions as both an input and an output. It is internally pulled up through a 100 kΩ resistor and is pulled low if an overtemperature condition occurs or, depending on the configuration, after a current trip.
Pulling the FAULT line low externally stops the motor and prevents a new start. Fault lines from multiple compatible controllers can be connected together to provide synchronized stopping.
The driver supports selectable 2 kHz and 16 kHz PWM frequencies. The 16 kHz setting provides quieter motor operation, but the available motor current is approximately 30% lower than at 2 kHz.
The integrated cooling fan improves heat dissipation during continuous high-current operation. Fan control switches on at 55 °C and switches off when the temperature falls below 50 °C.
The integrated two-wire RS-485 interface supports the Modbus RTU protocol at 9.6 or 19.2 kbit/s. It enables remote motor control, parameter adjustment and monitoring of operating values.
Parameters can be configured digitally using the EM-236 Interface Unit. Settings can also be copied from one driver to multiple devices.
The EM-236 can also be used to monitor controller operation and selected functional values during commissioning and diagnostics.
