EM-A24-SAF is a compact PCB-mountable positioning driver for brushed DC motors and actuators with analog position feedback. It is based on the proven EM-241 driver platform and is designed for vertical installation, requiring very little motherboard area.
The module features an efficient full-bridge MOSFET power stage with low EMC emissions. Its analog position command and feedback interfaces make it suitable for actuator positioning applications using a feedback potentiometer or another sensor with an analog voltage output.
The requested position is supplied as an analog voltage signal within the 0–5.5 V range. The input can be scaled freely within this range to match the required movement range.
Position feedback is supplied as a 0–5.5 V analog signal. The feedback source can be a potentiometer or another position sensor with a compatible analog voltage output. The maximum electrical accuracy of the driver and feedback measurement is 0.2%.
An integrated learning routine assists in determining the actuator’s full movement range. After learning, the usable range can be restricted from either end using adjustable software limit parameters.
Motor speed and current limits can be configured separately for the forward and reverse directions. This allows the movement characteristics and available torque to be optimized independently for each direction.
Additional adjustment parameters include load compensation, positioning dead zone, acceleration and deceleration ramps, and a braking zone. These settings support smooth direction changes and controlled approach to the requested position.
The module supports selectable 2 kHz and 16 kHz PWM frequencies. The 2 kHz setting provides greater current capability, while 16 kHz enables quieter motor operation with reduced current capacity.
Parameters and operating status can be configured and monitored using the EM-236 Interface Unit or the EM-328 interface. Parameter settings can also be copied between driver modules.
An onboard LED indicates fault conditions using blinking codes.
Fault information is available through the NPN open-collector FAULT output on pin 17. The disable input stops driver operation for as long as the disable command remains active.
Depending on the module connection, the disable function is available on pin 18 or pin 12. An analog position signal is available on pin 14 for external position indication.
The vertically installed module requires little motherboard area. Its low-emission power stage can simplify EMC design when the driver is integrated into OEM equipment.
